Adolescent Peter goes to stay with his uncle Kristen and aunt Linn in the countryside, and witnesses some dramatic events that distinguish this vacation from previous vacations. He had been there many times before when he was little. But that summer was special. It was arranged by his parents who had to solve their marital problems. And the best thing was to get rid of him. Also Peter discovers that the marriage of the aunt and the uncle disintegrates. A servant seduced by his uncle commits suicide, but one of his other lovers, the young single mother Cathrine, initiates Peter in love. He feels that the safe uncle becomes his rival. At the same time, he must keep the shame and insecurity inside him since he is not yet an adult. He puts his fresh sexual knowledge into practice again with Gerd, a girl of his own age.
